Resume attachments in job applications

Two month ago recruiters asked me to attach resumes to job application emails.
One month ago PostJobFree team made it happen.
Now when you post jobs we email you job applications and include candidate's resume as an attachment.

Here is how it works:

1) File format
If job seeker uploaded resume in PDF format - we send you their original PDF resume.
If job seeker uploaded resume in MS word or other text formats or just copy-pasted their resume - we convert that into DOCX and attach to the application email.
We try to preserve original resume formatting when converting resume to DOCX.

2) Document size
We do not allow job seekers to upload resumes more than 2 MB in size (such resumes are rare and usually contain large images).
If resume is more than 0.5 MB PostJobFree does not attach such resume to application email (to save your inbox from overflooding).

Job application email contains a link pointing to the job application page.
You can also find job application on all job applications page.

So now that you know how it works let me ask you couple of questions:
1) Is it OK for you to receive resumes in both PDF and DOCX formats?
2) Should we filter out big attachments?
What maximum resume size should we allow when emailing job application to you?
(Currently "send attachment" limit is 0.5 MB).

Should we attach resume file to job application emails?

When job seeker applies to your job posting, PostJobFree emails you job seeker's application.
We include job seeker's resume into body of that email as a plain text.

Some recruiters asked me if PostJobFree can include resume as an email attachment.
We can make that change, but only if many recruiters would like to get resume in form of attachment.

Please let me know what you think about it:

1) Would you like to receive resume as a text inside of application email body or as a file attachment?

2) What resume file format would you prefer as an attachment?

• pdf
• doc
• docx
• html
• txt

3) Would you like to receive resume in the same file format that job seeker uploaded it in?
Possible advantages:
- Original resume contains formatting (headers, fonts, tables, etc).
Possible disadvantages:
- Resume extension and formatting would be different from job seeker to job seeker.
- Some of originally uploaded resumes may contain viruses (not very likely but may happen).
- Attachment size may be quite large.

Update:
Based on feedback I'm receiving by email it looks like most recruiters prefer PDF attachment.
DOC/DOCX is also popular.
Some recruiters are asking me to keep sending resume as a plain text inside email body.

Job Application Autoresponder is ready

We added job application autoresponder because many recruiters requested it.
Now when job seeker applies for your jobs, PostJobFree emails an autoresponder message to the job seeker:

Email subject: Job application confirmation: Marketing / Sales LeadDeveloper
Thank you for applying for the position of Marketing / Sales LeadDeveloper.
If the company is interested in your application they will contact you ASAP.

You may change the autoresponder message:

• Open postjobfree.com
• Click on your username in the upper right corner (sign in if needed).
• Click "Account settings".
• Click "Setup job application autoresponder".

You may test how it works by applying to one of your jobs.

Job application autoresponder

Several recruiters asked me if PostJobFree can email auto-reply to candidates after they applied for a job.
We are working on making it happen.

Autoresponder may help recruiters communicate their application process to job seekers and make job seekers more comfortable waiting for recruiter's reply.

Sign up for Resume Search Alert?

About a week ago PostJobFree started asking recruiters to create resume search alerts every time recruiter posts a new job.
Creating resume search alert is a good way to get new resumes that match job opening you are trying to fill.
Still it is not for everybody: one recruiter told me she does not want to see. Sign up for resume alert screen after she posted a job.
