Should we attach resume file to job application emails?

When job seeker applies to your job posting, PostJobFree emails you job seeker's application.
We include job seeker's resume into body of that email as a plain text.

Some recruiters asked me if PostJobFree can include resume as an email attachment.
We can make that change, but only if many recruiters would like to get resume in form of attachment.

Please let me know what you think about it:

1) Would you like to receive resume as a text inside of application email body or as a file attachment?

2) What resume file format would you prefer as an attachment?

  • pdf
  • doc
  • docx
  • html
  • txt

3) Would you like to receive resume in the same file format that job seeker uploaded it in?
Possible advantages:
- Original resume contains formatting (headers, fonts, tables, etc).
Possible disadvantages:
- Resume extension and formatting would be different from job seeker to job seeker.
- Some of originally uploaded resumes may contain viruses (not very likely but may happen).
- Attachment size may be quite large.

Please let me know what you think in comments below or email to webmaster@postjobfree.com

Update:
Based on feedback I'm receiving by email it looks like most recruiters prefer PDF attachment.
DOC/DOCX is also popular.
Some recruiters are asking me to keep sending resume as a plain text inside email body.

Would you like us to keep including resume text into email body (in addition to pdf attachment)?

    All applications/resumes contain candidate's email.
More than a half contain phone number and mailing address.

  6. We think you should include resume as an email attachment in addition to including resume text into email body.So that that the users will get benefits of both & can avoid drawbacks of both by selecting the mode of format suited to their present requirements

  11. I believe sending both would be helpful. Not all attachments are compatible with every system.

doc format would probably be best

Not all attachments submitted are compatible with every system

    Hope this helps

  13. I prefer them just as they are now. PDF is not compatible with my applicant tracking system and would cause major hassle for me. If you have to do attachments please include the resume as text in the body of the email as well.

  14. YES! Please attach. This will enable me to upload to my ATS. All formats except HTML are preferred. YES, it would be helpful to maintain the integrity of the submitted resume and keep it in the same format.

    THANK YOU!

Would you prefer to receive doc/docx/pdf attachment exactly as job seeker uploaded originally or it would be better if we try to remove scripts from them (script might be not safe)?

  20. An attachment would be nice, in the format that the candidate supplies it. I believe that most recruiters have the capability to open in any format. My preference would be a Word doc (doc or docx) format.

    1. @Jim Sullivan,
We will try to preserve resume formatting when converting their resume.
By the way, about 50% of candidates upload their resume in docx format.
Another 25% - in doc format.

  24. would LOVE to see resumes attached as a .doc attachment. First thing I do with anyone who looks promising is ask them to send one. This would save time on my end.

  25. I would prefer a Word doc attachment! If I use the candidate after discussing. I still need to wait for it to be sent to me in a word doc.
