We include job seeker's resume into body of that email as a plain text.
Some recruiters asked me if PostJobFree can include resume as an email attachment.
We can make that change, but only if many recruiters would like to get resume in form of attachment.
Please let me know what you think about it:
1) Would you like to receive resume as a text inside of application email body or as a file attachment?
2) What resume file format would you prefer as an attachment?
- doc
- docx
- html
- txt
Possible advantages:
- Original resume contains formatting (headers, fonts, tables, etc).
Possible disadvantages:
- Resume extension and formatting would be different from job seeker to job seeker.
- Some of originally uploaded resumes may contain viruses (not very likely but may happen).
- Attachment size may be quite large.
Please let me know what you think in comments below or email to webmaster@postjobfree.com
Update:
Based on feedback I'm receiving by email it looks like most recruiters prefer PDF attachment.
DOC/DOCX is also popular.
Some recruiters are asking me to keep sending resume as a plain text inside email body.
resumes should be attached as a PDF file
ReplyDeleteA pdf attachment with how to contact them, otherwise, its useless.
ReplyDelete@Thomasina Singleton:
ReplyDeleteWould you like us to keep including resume text into email body (in addition to pdf attachment)?
attachment as a pdf file
Delete@Connie Wilson:
ReplyDeleteAll applications/resumes contain candidate's email.
More than a half contain phone number and mailing address.
A PDF attachment would be great. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteWe think you should include resume as an email attachment in addition to including resume text into email body.So that that the users will get benefits of both & can avoid drawbacks of both by selecting the mode of format suited to their present requirements
ReplyDeleteAn email attachment in a .doc or .docx file would be really helpful.
ReplyDeleteYes! Resumes should be attached as a PDF file!
ReplyDeleteI prefer resumes as an attachment in DOCX format
ReplyDeleteA PDF file attached to the email would work great for me. Thank you
ReplyDeleteI believe sending both would be helpful. Not all attachments are compatible with every system.
ReplyDeletedoc format would probably be best
Not all attachments submitted are compatible with every system
Hope this helps
Attached as either a PDF or Word document. Still would like resume to be included in the text of the email as well.
ReplyDeleteI prefer them just as they are now. PDF is not compatible with my applicant tracking system and would cause major hassle for me. If you have to do attachments please include the resume as text in the body of the email as well.
ReplyDeleteYES! Please attach. This will enable me to upload to my ATS. All formats except HTML are preferred. YES, it would be helpful to maintain the integrity of the submitted resume and keep it in the same format.
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU!
ReplyDeleteAttach as either pdf or docx. Either is fine with me.
PDF attachments scanned for viruses before sending them.
ReplyDeleteAll formats except HTML would be great.
ReplyDeleteresumes should be attached as a PDF file
ReplyDeleteWord (doc and docx) and PDF. Nothing else.
ReplyDeleteI would like to receive them in the same format as they send it in as long as it is DOC, DOC or PDF
@Jeff Altman
DeleteWould you prefer to receive doc/docx/pdf attachment exactly as job seeker uploaded originally or it would be better if we try to remove scripts from them (script might be not safe)?
An attachment would be nice, in the format that the candidate supplies it. I believe that most recruiters have the capability to open in any format. My preference would be a Word doc (doc or docx) format.
ReplyDelete@Jim Sullivan,
DeleteWe will try to preserve resume formatting when converting their resume.
By the way, about 50% of candidates upload their resume in docx format.
Another 25% - in doc format.
pdf is ok
ReplyDeletepdf is fine. Marc LeVine - Edgewood Properties.
ReplyDeleteAttachment is best. We can open pdf, doc or docx.
ReplyDeleteattachment is good but the candidates should get options to choose and decide for themselves.
ReplyDeletePDF
ReplyDeletewould LOVE to see resumes attached as a .doc attachment. First thing I do with anyone who looks promising is ask them to send one. This would save time on my end.
ReplyDeleteI would prefer a Word doc attachment! If I use the candidate after discussing. I still need to wait for it to be sent to me in a word doc.

ReplyDeleteI would prefer a pdf attached but I can where it could be nice to see it in the email without downloading the attachment.
ReplyDeletePDF attachment is best. I hate getting .doc files personally and resumes are too hard to read in emails- they're never formatted properly.
ReplyDeletePrefer as an attachment doc, docx, pdf in addition to resume text into email body.
